The German director Andreas Dresen and
his longtime producer Peter Rommel will be honoured on October 1st,
2011 during the 19th edition of Filmfest Hamburg with the Douglas Sirk
Award. This renowned award is given each year to a personality who has
rendered outstanding services to film culture.

“The
first time for Filmfest Hamburg we decided to honour winners from
Germany, namely a winner team. We wanted to emphasize and reward an
outstanding and continous partnership between director Dresen and
producer Rommel. Their cooperation is a remarkable exception in Germany.
Deep humanity characterizes their films and their creativity shows no
fear towards important and existential subjects,” explains Filmfest
director Albert Wiederspiel his choice.
On the occasion of the
award ceremony, Filmfest Hamburg will show the new film from Dresen and
Rommel, “Halt auf halber Strecke”, as a German Premiere. This film is
already awarded in Cannes with the first prize in the renowned series
“Un certain regard”.
The film tells about Frank (Milan
Peschel), 40, who has fallen ill with an incurable form of brain tumour.
There is only little time left for him to say goodbye to his wife
(Steffi Kühnert), his children and to his own life. Besides the
outstanding acting performances, this vivid realism in certain
situations is remarkable.
Andreas Dresen explains that he
processed tragic experiences of his own life with this story. The last
year has been a year of separation and death of close friends.
Andreas
Dresen is born 1963 in Gera. He is known for his open and often
improvised films with their very realistic and sometimes even
documentary touch. He became known, together with his producer Peter
Rommes (*1956 in Stuttgart), for the awarded films “Halbe Treppe”
(2002), “Sommer vorm Balkon” (2004) and “Wolke 9” (2008).
The
German premiere of “Halt auf halber Strecke” together with the
prize-giving of the Douglas Sirk Award to Andreas Dresen and Peter
Rommel will take place on October 1st, 2011 at 19:30 in the CinemaxX
Dammtor.
“Halt auf halber Strecke” will be released in German cinemas on November 17, 2011 by Pandora Film Verleih.
