Since this year, Filmfest Hamburg benefits from a supporting association. Freundeskreis Filmfest Hamburg e.V. (lit: Friends of Filmfest Hamburg) was founded in April 2008, with the aim of giving financial and ideological support to the Hanseatic City's film festival and thereby to film culture as a whole. The association will help to increase an all-year public awareness of Filmfest Hamburg. As of now, friends have the opportunity of supporting Filmfest Hamburg by means of membership fees. The basic contribution lies at 75 euros per year. School children and students pay 35 euros and a company membership amounts to 500 euros.

The association logo was designed by Holger Matthies, design professor of international renown. On an underlying black space symbolizing the darkened cinema auditorium, a projecting beam of light tapers towards its source. As befits Filmfest Hamburg, the logo combines artistic value with the place of action.

The registered association Freundeskreis Filmfest Hamburg e.V. will be represented on location throughout Filmfest Hamburg (26.09. - 02.10.2008) with an own stand in the cinema CinemaxX Dammtor.
